Pairing: Niam.

Summary:It had been… A fairy-tale.”

—-

Niall sipped on his Caramel Frappuccino, chewing the end of the straw lightly, his eyebrows knotted together as he stared at the past paper Liam had given to him. He placed the tall plastic cup on the table and picked up his pencil, hovering over the sheets as he stared down in confusion.

Liam sat opposite Niall, a coffee that had long since been warm in his hand, his head cocked as he watched his boyfriend with a small smile tugging at his lips. He’s so cute when he’s confused, the elder thought.

The Irish boy was still oblivious to the attention that he was attracting from his boyfriend who was sitting opposite him at the small table in Starbucks as he started to scratch letters and numbers onto the sheet of paper, crossing out furiously as he did something wrong, free hand tugging at his messy blond hair. His eyes suddenly lit up as a thought came to his head; quickly scribbling it down, he looked up at Liam and smiled in victory as he finally got the question right.

“I finally did it, Li!” Niall said happily, grin wide on his face.

“Let’s see?” Liam asked, reaching out for the paper.

Niall handed it over with a smug smile on his face, pushing his blond hair back in relief as he watched Liam correct his work.

“Well… It’s pretty much perfect!” Liam said, returning the sheets to his boyfriend.

“Oh god I spent so long on that… Ugh. I’m tired of this! I hate revision!” Niall pouted, reaching for his drink again. He sucked in half of what was left in the cup, rubbing his eyes tiredly. The two had spent nearly four hours in Starbucks studying for their exam which was in a few weeks.

The elder had walked to Niall’s house at seven in the morning – breakfast in hand – as he went to wake the latter for a long day worth of revision. The latter had pulled up the covers, but Liam placed the breakfast on the younger boy’s bedside table and crawled in under the covers with the blond, wrapping an arm around his thin waist, pressing a gentle kiss to the latter’s temple. Niall had stirred and his eyes fluttered open slowly and sleepily, a small smile pulling his lips up as he sleep left his eyes, revealing his boyfriend in a simple white t-shirt lying next to him in bed.

“Hi,” Niall breathed – his voice still heavy with sleep.

“Hey,” Liam whispered back, admiring the way Niall’s eyelids still drooped slightly with fatigue.

               “Morning already?”

               “Mhmm,” Liam replied.

“I thought I died,” Niall said quietly.

               “Why?” Liam asked slightly shocked.

“Because I woke up with an angel next to me,” Niall replied with a smile.

Liam’s cheeks tinged pink and his face lit up with a warm smile. The Wolverhampton boy dipped his head down for a kiss.

Niall’s lips were… perfect. They were warm and dry, and slightly rough, but they were soft and tender. Their lips moved together in perfect synchronisation, as they lay in each other’s arms. Niall’s small calloused hands rose to press on Liam’s smooth, solid chest feeling his heart beat in an irregular pattern as the elder brought one hand behind the Irish boy’s neck, pulling him in closer.

“Mmmm, we should get moving,” Liam murmured onto Niall’s lips, pulling away unwillingly. “Lots of revision to do,” he said before Niall captured his lips in another kiss.

The tip of the blond boy’s tongue swept over Liam’s bottom lip sweetly, asking for entrance, and Liam granted him access gladly. It was a tangle of tongues – sweet, but in a somewhat playful manner, fighting for dominance. Liam nipped at Niall’s bottom lip gently as he pushed himself up reluctantly from his boyfriend – his hair still ruffled, his lips slightly pink and swollen from the kiss. The elder smiled down at his boyfriend, giving him a quick kiss on his cheek as he reached for the breakfast he had set aside for him on the bedside table.

“Here,” Liam smiled, offering the blue-eyed boy the paper bag, the latter reaching for it eagerly; opening the bag.

“Awh, Liam! You’re going to get me all fat with all these grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches! And then you’re not going to want me because I’m going to look fat and hideous!” He pouted as he bit into one of the sandwiches, closing his eyes in satisfaction. “But mmm, this is delicious.”

Liam smiled, pulling Niall in, pressing a kiss onto the top of his head. “Niall, I won’t ever stop loving you. Even if you weigh three hundred pounds, or if you look like a toad, or even if you grow old and you lose your vision. Understood?”

Niall looked up at his boyfriend, his blue eyes shining with tears. “And I love you, Li.”

“I love you, but if you don’t hurry up, we’ll have no studying done!” Liam grinned at the blond boy, jumping out of the bed, shoving several of Niall’s books in a bag and tossing him a red polo and some white jeans.

Niall quickly shoved the rest of the sandwich into his mouth and stripped off his Superman t-shirt, leaving Liam ogling at his boyfriend’s perfectly shaped body – Niall didn’t have abs, or definition, but Liam loved it all the same; for Liam it was Niall, and Niall was perfect.

After waiting for Niall to change and checking one last time for their books, the two walked hand in hand to the Starbucks that was located 15 minutes away from Niall’s house. They talked and laughed as they walked. And for Liam… this simplicity with Niall without any hustle, without any drama, without anything drastic, was bliss.

They had proceeded to spend the next four hours sharing a chocolate chip Frappuccino and a caramel Frappuccino studying… And for Liam – admiring the way the blue eyed boy was so carefree, yet so studious and fun, and loving and absorbing every moment he shared with Niall.

“Niall,” Liam said gently, watching as his boyfriend’s blue orbs flicked up to meet with his brown ones. “Let’s get out of here… We can revise later,” he added, a mischievous smile tugging at his lips.

Niall’s face lit up in delight. “Where are we going?”

“Wait and see! Now pack up all your things, and here,” Liam said, handing Niall his scarf which he had worn to the younger boy’s house in the morning (where there was a breeze). “Wrap this around your eyes… It’s going to be a surprise.”

“Okay,” Niall replied excitedly, swiping all of his books and pens into his bag. The blond boy tied the scarf over his eyes, covering the blue eyes that were sparkling with life.

He felt Liam’s hand slip into his own, holding on tightly.

“Don’t let me fall,” the blindfolded boy whispered.

               “Never,” Liam promised.

Liam proceeded to slowly lead Niall out of Starbucks, his grip on the younger boy’s hand never loosening. After about 5 minutes of walking, and only getting as far as the street across Starbucks, Liam stopped Niall abruptly.

“Niall, get onto my back,” he ordered.

               “But…” Niall protested.

“It’s okay, I’ll carry you there. I won’t let you fall; I promise.”

“Okay,” Niall replied, trying to clamber onto Liam’s back.

Liam tensed his grip on the small Irishman on his back. And he began walking.

“Liam?” Niall piped up from behind Liam.

               “Mmmm?”

“Why did you ask me out?” Niall asked shyly. “I mean… You could’ve asked Louis out… Or Zayn! Everyone thought it was going to be Zayn!”

“I didn’t choose you,” Liam answered after a pause. “My heart did.”

Niall’s heart fluttered wildly in his chest; a subtle blush creeping into his pale skin. “Then help me say thank you to your heart… For choosing me.”

“You are the best form of thanks I could get, Ni,” Liam replied. “Just never leave me.”

“Never. I love you so much,” Niall whispered, his heart beating madly in his chest. He pressed a kiss to Liam’s ear, tightening his arms around the elder’s neck, resting his cheek against Liam’s as the brown haired boy continued to walk with the blond on his back. “Are we there yet?” Niall asked after five minutes of silence, breathing in and absorbing Liam in every moment.

“Yes,” Liam replied, letting go of Niall slowly so that the latter could slide off his back. “Don’t take your blindfold off yet… Take off your shoes, Nialler,” Liam commanded.

The smaller boy did as he was told, and holding his shoes in one hand, and his boyfriend’s hand in the other, the elder propelled the two to walk.

Niall walked onto something soft, but prickly at the same time, and he yelped quietly in surprise, but adjusted to it.

               “Grass?” Niall asked.

“Good guess. Do you know where we are?”

               “Mmm… Nope,” Niall laughed.

“Well keep walking,” Liam told him.

               “Okay.”

“Hold on, stop for a second… Stay here.” Liam ordered, bringing Niall to a stop. “Don’t go anywhere, okay?” Liam added, pecking Niall on the cheek.

“Okay…” Niall replied uncertainly, not being able to stand completely still blindfolded. He stood there for what seemed like an eternity, until Liam returned with a delicate kiss to his lips that seemed to breeze by, slipping his hand into Niall’s calloused ones again.

“Okay, let’s go,” Liam said, pulling Niall along again. After walking for a little while, Liam brought Niall to a stop again. “Okay, take off your blindfold,” Liam ordered, whispering the directions into Niall’s ear, giving him Goosebumps where his breath passed by.

Niall lifted Liam’s scarf off his eyes slowly, revealing a breath-taking scene before his eyes.

               “Wow…” was all Niall managed.

Liam had led Niall to a small grassy patched bathed in sunlight which was by a small creek. There was an old, large, tall oak tree that stood by the creek, and tied to one of the strong branches was a tyre swing that hung over the brook. Liam – Niall guessed – had tied 16 multi-coloured balloons that had “I Love You Niall” spelled out on them onto small rocks that sat side-by-side, all lined up on the edge of the creek.

Niall turned in awe to Liam, his jaw slack, eyes wide and sparkling with excitement.

“You… You did this for me?” The younger boy asked, shocked.

“You like it?” Liam asked, gesturing to the scene in front of them.

Niall didn’t reply with words. He dropped his bag onto the floor, and wrapped his arms around Liam’s neck, pulling him in for a deep kiss. Liam reciprocated the kiss equally as enthusiastically, winding his arms around Niall’s waist, pulling him in until every possible part of their bodies was touching.

Niall smiled, pulling away. “How did you even find this place?” he asked, curious.

“Well… I found this place when I was about four or five. I was in the park with my grandfather – the park that we passed just now – but I was playing alone, and I ran off. I ended up finding this place. Needless to say, my grandfather was worried sick, but when I finally found my way back to him, I showed him here…  Then he deemed this as our private spot… He built me this tyre swing, and when I was younger – actually, it still applies – I used to come here when I was angry, or upset… It’s a quiet place, you know? No one can find me here… And my granddad made me promise that whenever I find someone I truly love, I’d show them this place… And it’d be our secret getaway…” Liam rushed out in a breath. “You’re the first person I’ve ever brought here,” he added after a heartbeat.

The smile on Niall’s face was almost as bright as the sunshine that beamed upon the two boys. “Thank you, Liam. For anything and everything that you’ve ever done for me… And this… This just means so much to me,” he beamed. “I don’t know what to say… But I love you, Liam. And I hope I’m the only person you ever bring here… I know that sounds selfish, but I hope I’m the only you’ll love from now on…”

“It’s not selfish. Because that’s what I’m hoping too,” Liam added, resting his forehead against Niall’s. “You want to try out that swing then?” The Wolverhampton boy asked with a smile. “I mean, I have to know if it can hold the both of us… Grandpa told me that it’s so strong it could hold up the world… But I have to try it out… What if it can’t hold us? I mean, you are my world,” Liam smiled, pulling Niall closer to the swing.

               Niall blushed, following Liam’s lead.

——-

The sky was getting dark; it had changed from a clear blue that had been tinged orange as the sun slowly sank, then turning a beautiful shade of violet. The two had spent the afternoon off as a break from revision. They held hands and talked whilst sitting on the grass; they had taken off their shoes and socks, and rolled up their trousers to splash their feet in the cool water of the creek; they had kissed, and held each other, whispering sweet nothings into each other’s ears; Liam had sat against the old oak tree, resting his back against the trunk with Niall’s head in his lap, one hand intertwined as he played with Niall’s soft blond hair as the latter dozed on and off in his lap, occasionally to admire the perfectly formed clouds above; they had walked hand in hand to the park and bought cotton candy from the vendor; they had played a game of catch barefoot in the park next to the creek. It had been… A fairy-tale.

And now, one blond and one brunet, towing sixteen multi-coloured balloons were walking down the street hand in hand, toward the blond boy’s house. They walked in silence, taking in, savouring, and remembering every moment from the afternoon they had spent together.

They stopped in front of Niall’s house, Niall turning towards his boyfriend who had a warm content smile on his face as he held one of his hands.

“You’re really not staying for dinner?” Niall asked. “Mum would love it if you did.”

Liam shook his head slightly, smiling. “Not tonight.”

“Okay then… See you tomorrow?” The blond asked, stepping onto the porch.

“Yeah, see you tomorrow,” Liam replied.

“Thank you, Li. It was the best day ever… Thank you so much,” Niall whispered quietly, as if he feared the shadows would hear. “I can’t describe it… I mean… The balloons… The creek… The tyre swing… The piggyback rides…” He said, gesturing to the balloons he was holding. “Everything.”

“No.” Liam protested. “Thank you, for making it so magical, Niall… It wouldn’t have happened without you,” he said, touching his forehead with Niall’s.

Their eyes closing slowly, the two kissed. It was a brief kiss, but all the emotions behind it… All the unsaid words, the thank you’s and the love was shared in the brief moment that their lips touched.

“I love you… See you tomorrow, Li,” Niall said, slightly breathless as he pulled away.

“I love you too, see you tomorrow, Nialler,” Liam replied, his hand still holding onto the Irishman’s as the latter walked into the door, pulling the balloons behind him. “Bye,” he waved to his boyfriend, smiling. Slowly, he backed out of the path, a smile still lingering on his lips, the feel of Niall still creating a tingling sensation.
